The mailman made me one happy dude today! The first Aku No Hana volume I ordered finally arrived. I don't know why it took me so long to start collecting these.
It's my favorite ongoing manga at the moment, so I decided to share some initial thoughts on the volume.
Upon unwrapping the package, I immediately notice how minimalistic the cover of the volume is. The front and back are abundantly white. The black and white on the cover gives it all a retro touch I'm quite fond of. The volume is somewhat smaller than a usual volume. Not that it has less content. You get 6 long chapters spread across 200 pages. It just isn't as "tall". Could look odd on a shelf, but it's convenient at the same time as it doesn't take up much space. Very compact.
Now, Aku No Hana is known for its beautiful artwork. Even some of the rough online scans don't take away how natural everything seems. The artwork in the volumes is even better!
I know that's usually the case, but it's so much sharper than what I expected. The pictures don't do it justice so you'll just have to take my word for it.
This is a manga that should be on every collector's shelf.
I won't be going into the story itself as I've already covered that. Spoiler-free of course. In case you missed it, click here to read about Aku No Hana.
Am I satisfied? Yes. Will I be buying more? Absolutely and soon!
