Do you think real and fake anime fans exist? Is it right to categorize them just because of what their top 5 is? Is it okay to judge them just because their top 5 anime consist of the big three?

Tbh it depends. If they claim to be an otaku with all this knowledge but all they know is the big 3 then they are fake imo. I actually know ppl like this. Those who only watch the big 3 but don't stunt about it are real anime fans. My opinion tho

It doesn't matter if their favorites are in the big 3 as long as you enjoy any other kind of anime. If you only like the big 3 and/or really popular anime I think you're fake.

But I think even if they only watch the big three, I consider them to be anime fans in a slight way but not otaku. If they didn't like anime they wouldn't it be watching it, right? But, I don't like the people who just watch the big three and slander all the other anime out there without even giving it a chance.

As to what I personally believe, I don't give a fuck about what your top 5 is or whether your type five does indeed consist of the big three. I think, any anime fan should just watch what they want. If you like One Piece but not Kyoukai no Kanata, then do OP and vice-versa. But, if you slander all the other anime and claim the big three to be the GOAT I will consider you a ignorant anime fan but not necessarily a fake one. But someone who claims to be an otaku and yet not know anything about Anime, Japanese pop culture ect., I will think of you as fake. Other than that, I believe you should never go on slandering minor anime saying they're worse than the big three. I also don't get why people slander the big three. The big three are there for a REASON. Almost all otaku started from watching the big three or other mainstream anime and work their way up to other shows. Also, I think it's fucking stupid slandering people just because their favorite anime is a mainstream anime. Who the fuck cares anyway? If you don't like it, get over yourself. But that is just my own perspective and opinion on this.

Refusing to watch others and thinking the big 3 are all that really matters is what I call fake. I hate fans who slander anything that they don't watch

No it's not right to categorize fans by their preferences. Simply because you never know in what way a show satisfies someone, or what they take away from it. For example: my favorite 2013 anime is Kill La Kill. I perfectly understand that it's mainly mindless fun, but that's exactly why I love it. Someone else might require more of a plot. (Which doesn't mean I don't like a good plot but you get my point.) I think there's a difference between your top 5 as in preference and what you consider quality. It's possible to like a show or even love it, fully aware of the fact that it has its flaws. Thinking you can judge someone based off a series they love is absurd. There are simply too many elements in a single show that could be the reason someone loves it.

People get different things out of whatever show they watch let it be a harem, romance, slice of life or action.

Real or fake, fuck it ya know? As long as they watch whatever, I don't give a shit. To me, a fake anime fan is someone who claims they watch a ton of anime, but watch none whatsoever, or watch like an episode or two of a series and add it to their "list of watched shows". What they watch doesn't matter, how much they watch does.

I don't think there are fake anime fans per say but I do think there are a lot of one sided anime fans. I get that every one has their favorite series big 3 or not but that doesn't mean one should remain ignorant to other series out there or bash others because of there series/genre preference.
